About me:
I was born on february 15, 1967 in Werneck (that is near Schweinfurt in Unterfranken). I went to school for 13 years and passed Abitur at the Alexander-von-Humboldt Gymnasium (grammar school). Subsequently I studied mathematics and physics in Würzburg for 6 years. I passed the state examination in 1992 with the subjects
mathematics, physics and pedagogy. After this I tought for more than 9 years at grammar schools in the towns of Bamberg, Marktbreit and Würzburg. In 1997 I did my doctorate with Mr. Prof. Dr. Vollrath; it has the titel Project Based Learning for Mathematics in Junior and Senior Highschool.
Since 1998 I have had several lectureships at the University of Würzburg. When I was appointed to the University of Education at Weingarten, I was still working in a school, while holding a chair of mathematics education in Würzburg (Prof. Dr. H.-G. Weigand) on a project which was supported by BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research). Since August 2002 I have been educating students in mathematics and mathematics education as a successor of Mrs. Prof. Dr. Fraedrich at the University of Education at Weingarten. In August/September 2005 I was at the East China Normal University in Shanghai as a visiting professor.
So I got the chance to tell the Chinese students of mathematics education what we do in German schools. It was a very interesting time. In the summer semester 2007 I once again spent a researching semester at the East China Normal University in Shanghai as a visiting professor. During this time I edited two books about project work in mathematics teaching in China. I also became a consulant at the academy of further training of teachers in the province Zhejiang. In 2008, the year of mathematics, I coordinated the activities of the department of mathematics at the University of Education Weingarten. Matthias Ludwig
